Political Science-1 | 7. Citizenship – VSAQs:
Welcome to VSAQs in Chapter 7: Citizenship. This page includes the most important FAQs for Very Short Answer Questions. Answers are given in simple English and follow the exam format. This will help you focus on key topics and aim for top marks in your final exams.

VSAQ-1: What do you mean by Jus Sanguinis?

Jus Sanguinis is a principle of nationality that means “right of blood.” According to this concept, a person’s citizenship is determined by their parents’ nationality rather than the place where they are born. For example, if two Indian parents have a child while living in the United States, that child would automatically acquire Indian citizenship because of their parents, even though they were born in a different country. Jus Sanguinis ensures that a child inherits the citizenship of their parents’ home country, regardless of their birthplace.

VSAQ-2: What is Dual Citizenship?

Dual citizenship refers to a situation where an individual holds citizenship in two different countries at the same time. For example, if a person is born in the United States to British parents, they might have both American and British citizenship. This means they can enjoy the rights and privileges of both countries, like voting in both countries’ elections or holding passports from both nations. However, not all countries allow dual citizenship, and the rules for maintaining or acquiring it can be complex. Countries have their own laws and conditions regarding who can have dual citizenship and how it can be obtained.

VSAQ-3: Mention any two qualities of a good citizen.

Two important qualities of a good citizen are:

Obedience to Law and Order: A good citizen understands the importance of following the laws and regulations of their country. By doing so, they help maintain peace and order in society. For instance, obeying traffic rules helps prevent accidents and keeps everyone safe.

Civic Responsibility: A good citizen actively participates in the civic life of their community and country. This includes voting in elections, reporting any illegal activities, and contributing to the betterment of society by volunteering or supporting community projects. For example, a citizen who votes is helping to shape the future of their country.
